About Us
Located on the slopes of Volcán Maderas, Finca Magdalena is a historic coffee farm and community cooperative on Ometepe Island. The cooperative was established in the 1980s and has been an important part of the local community ever since. Finca Magdalena was also one of the first guesthouses on the island, welcoming visitors long before tourism became widespread on Ometepe.
The finca is owned and run by 26 local families from the nearby village of Balgue who work together to cultivate the land and preserve traditional farming practices.
Surrounded by jungle and ancient forest, the farm produces 100% organic coffee grown within the natural ecosystem of the volcano. Visitors can experience life on a working farm, explore the forest and petroglyphs, climb the volcano, or learn about sustainable agriculture through guided tours.
With its 120-year-old farmhouse and cooperative spirit, Finca Magdalena offers a unique place where nature, culture, and community come together.
Our Spanish programs combine language learning with cultural immersion, giving students the opportunity to practice Spanish not only in class but also through daily interactions and experiences on the island.
