Your Journey
to the Island

Reaching Ometepe Island is simple and part of the adventure. Ferries depart regularly from San Jorge Port and cross Lake Nicaragua to the main island port of Moyogalpa.

After arriving in Moyogalpa, Finca Magdalena is about one hour away. You can reach the finca by taxi or by renting a scooter, enjoying a scenic drive across the island and up the slopes of Volcán Maderas.

If you prefer a smooth arrival, we can also arrange a private taxi pickup from the port. Simply let us know your arrival time when booking.

When searching for Finca Magdalena on Google Maps, you may see two possible entrances. Please use the first entrance (blue line in the picture), as the second road is not in good condition. When driving along the main road, look for the large Finca Magdalena sign (see picture) located across from Campestre Restaurant.

How to get around the Island

grafikometepe.jpeg

Finca Magdalena is located in Balgue, a small and lively area where you can find restaurants, cafés, and small local shops. It is located next to Santa Cruz, an area that offers a variety of workshops and activities such as breathwork, ecstatic dance, kirtan, yoga classes, and other community events.

The easiest way to reach these places from Finca Magdalena is by rental scooter, which usually takes about 5-10 minutes. You can also walk to Santa Cruz, which takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Please note that Finca Magdalena is located on the slopes of Volcán Maderas, so the walk back includes an uphill walk.

Another common way to get around on Ometepe is hitchhiking, which is widely practiced and generally safe on the island.

For additional convenience, we can also arrange a taxi for you for an extra fee, and scooters can be rented in both Balgüe and Santa Cruz.
