Stay at the historic Finca Magdalena, a cooperative-run coffee farm on the lush slopes of Maderas Volcano.
This option offers a welcoming communal atmosphere with shared dormitory-style living, ideal for connecting with fellow travelers. Surrounded by nature and coffee plants, you will experience the authentic rhythm of life on the farm.

If you prefer a private room with its own bathroom, please mention it in the booking form, and we will be happy to arrange one for you at an additional cost.

Stay with a local family in Balgue and experience authentic Nicaraguan daily life.
This option offers a warm, welcoming environment where you can connect with the community and immerse yourself in the local culture.

 

Breakfast is shared with the host family, while lunch and dinner are served at the finca.

Transportation to and from the family home is included.

You can choose between a shared room with another traveler or a private room with its own bathroom for an additional cost. Please indicate your preference in the booking form.

Meals

Traditional Food

Enjoy traditional Nicaraguan dishes prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Typical meals include gallo pinto (rice and beans), eggs, fresh cheese, plantains, seasonal vegetables, and organic coffee grown directly on the farm. The menu is a mix of traditional Nicaraguan cuisine and nourishing vegetarian dishes. Meals are simple, wholesome, and reflect the authentic flavors of everyday life on Ometepe Island.

The intensive course includes three meals per day.

Our Activities

Afternoon activities offer a great opportunity to deepen your Spanish, as our tours and experiences are conducted in Spanish, allowing you to practice the language in real-life situations and strengthen what you learned in class.

One-Week Intensive Course
Two-Week Intensive Course

In addition to the 3 core activities (cooking class, honey production, and petroglyphs tour), students in the two-week intensive course will also enjoy a hiking tour with bird watching, permaculture tour and a coffee tour.

One-Week Intensive Course

Our one-week course includes 3 activities: a traditional cooking class, a tour to see honey production, and a petroglyphs tour. Additionally, other excursions such as the volcano tour and coffee tour can be added at a participant discount.

The following extra tours can be booked individually for an additional fee: Kajak Tour, Ojo de Agua, Cascada de San Ramon, Maderas Vulcano Tour.

Schedule

15-Hour Course

3 hours per day. Choose between morning (8:00 – 11:00am) or afternoon (2:00 – 5:00pm).

Example Daily Schedule
  • 8:00 - 8:30:                        Greeting and review of homework
  • 8:30 - 10:00:                     Grammar lessons and real-life speaking practice
  • 10:00 - 10:30:                   Coffee Break
  • 10:30 - 12:00:                   Conversation practice and role-play
  • 12:00 - 2:00pm:             Lunch break
  • 2:00 - 4:00pm:               Afternoon activity/hiking
  • 4:00 - 6:00pm:               Free time to explore Ometepe
  • 6:00pm:                                Dinner
20-Hour Course

4 hours per day. Choose between morning (8:00 – 12:00am) or afternoon (2:00 – 6:00pm).

25-Hour Course

5 hours per day. Choose between morning (8:00am – 1:00pm) or afternoon (2:00 – 7:00pm).

Flexible Schedule

You can also mix morning and afternoon sessions to create a schedule that suits you best. For example: 3 hours in the morning + 2 hours in the afternoon.
